The Pop!Sofa used to be an event series for the LGBTQ community in Vienna combining parties with concerts and all kinds of stage performances. Among the regular guests was Conchita Wurst, in 2012 best known as a participant of a casting show. Two years later the “woman with the beard” won the Eurovision Song Contest and used her fame to spread a message of respect and tolerance. After a meeting with Ban Ki-moon the UN Secretary-General praised her commitment to fight against discrimination and calls her performance “an electrifying moment of human rights education.”
